10th house

The 10th house begins at the Midheaven (MC) — the highest point of the chart — and rules everything you reach toward publicly: career, vocation, reputation, status, the public face of your work, and the kind of authority you grow into over time. The sign on the MC and any planets near it describe the texture of your public path. Saturn in the 10th often produces a slow-build career that arrives at substantial authority by mid-life; Sun in the 10th tends to produce someone whose identity and career are deeply fused. The 10th is distinct from the 6th (daily work) — the 10th is the larger vocation that the 6th's daily work serves. It is also distinct from the 4th (its opposite): the 4th is private foundation, the 10th is public expression. In medical astrology it rules the knees and skeleton.
