Solar return

A solar return is the chart cast for the exact moment the Sun returns to its natal degree in a given year — typically a few minutes off your actual birthday. Astrologers read the solar return chart as the texture of the year ahead: birthday to birthday, not January to December. The SR chart has its own Sun (where the year's energy lives, by house), Moon (the year's emotional climate), Rising (how you'll show up this year), and a full set of houses + aspects. The aspects from the SR chart to your natal chart describe the year's loud themes — what's getting activated, where the friction lies, where the support arrives. Working astrologers also track the perfecting timeline (when slow SR-to-natal aspects become exact within the year) and quarterly lunar returns at 3, 6, and 9 months past the SR for a more granular view.
