Ascendant

The Ascendant is the eastern horizon point at the exact moment and place of your birth — the cusp of the 1st house. Often called the Rising sign. It changes every two hours, so two people born on the same day a few hours apart can have radically different Ascendants. The Ascendant describes how you meet the world: your physical presence, your style of arrival, the first impression you make, and the lens through which you encounter new situations. Where the Sun is your core identity and the Moon is your inner life, the Ascendant is your social persona — not a mask, but the natural outward orientation of your energy. The sign on the Ascendant also determines the ruler of your chart (the planet that rules that sign), which becomes a key player in interpretation. Note: the Ascendant requires a known birth time. Time-unknown charts cannot compute it.
