Semi-sextile

A semi-sextile occurs when two planets are 30 degrees apart, sitting in adjacent signs. The orb is tight — typically 2 degrees. Adjacent signs share neither element nor modality, so semi-sextiles produce a kind of subtle mismatch: the two energies don't conflict (squares do that), don't flow easily (trines do that), but require small ongoing adjustments. Many working astrologers treat semi-sextiles as a junior version of the quincunx — the mode of relating is adjustment rather than ease or friction. Semi-sextiles often pass unnoticed in casual chart reading and are most useful when several minor aspects cluster, producing a chart pattern that the major aspects alone wouldn't reveal.
