Aspect

An aspect is a specific angular separation between two points in an astrological chart — typically two planets, or a planet and an angle (Ascendant, Midheaven). Aspects are how astrology connects the parts of a chart: they describe how planetary energies talk to each other. The major aspects are conjunction (0°), opposition (180°), trine (120°), square (90°), and sextile (60°); the minor aspects include semi-sextile, semi-square, quincunx, sesquiquadrate, quintile, and biquintile. Each aspect type has its own interpretive flavor — harmonious (trine, sextile), tense (square, opposition, quincunx), or fusion-quality (conjunction). The orb determines whether two planets are close enough to the exact angle to count: a 91° angle is still a square (within 1° orb), while a 110° angle is between the major aspects. Aspects are the grammar of chart reading.
